Review of Chosen, by K.F. Breene

I would like to dedicate my first blog post to K.F. Breene, author of the bestselling Darkness series, who inspired me to begin my first novel, and to write about the books that keep me reading deep into the night. Also to her wonderful and supportive street team members!

So, lets start from the beginning, shall we?

One day, on a quest for a new series to read, I began scrolling through all of the free books that came with my Amazon Prime membership. I only get one a month, and I wanted to make sure it was a good one. I’m easily bored, and an extremely fast reader, so I wanted to make sure the book was either long, or at least part of a series. It actually gets a little boring scrolling through all of the books that don’t seem appealing for the mood you are in! I finally, somehow, stumbled upon Chosen, the first book in The Warrior Chronicles, by K.F. Breene. Bingo! Looks exciting, I love adventure, and heck, I haven’t read anything good with magic in it since Harry Potter. I’ve honestly avoided the subject all together to avoid any disappointment from an author who just couldn’t ignite the spark like J.K. Rowling.

Chosen didn’t disappoint. Until it ended, that is. You see, in my haste to find a new great read, I didn’t do what I have always done – check to make sure I’m not reading the first book when the second has not yet been written, especially with a long weekend ahead of me. I quickly checked for book two on the kindle- nothing. I thought, “this has to just not be updated yet!”. So I went to her website. I would be lying if I said I hadn’t just hit the lowest post-book-ending-depression I’ve felt in years. With a sinking feeling I clicked on to the link for The Warrior Chronicles. Nope. Not a mistake. I really did have to wait for the next book. I was a brooding, sulking female for all of 5 minutes, as I browsed her other books. I’m really not a fan of romance, actually its my least favorite genre for some reason (next to biographies). Alas, there was one last glimmer of hope, the Darkness series. This also hadn’t been finished yet, but I was just so relieved to read another book that had the potential to put me on another emotional roller-coaster that I really didn’t care. I read everything I could get my grubby little paws on! I continued the super-excited/really-disappointed-the-book-ended cycle until I was finished with book 3. That was it, no more stuff I can read!

The sulking set in again, as I traipsed back to her website, joined her mailing list, and found this cute little section about her street team. I immediately sent her a request to join. I can’t even remember the last time I was so excited to find an author I really liked. I wanted to see her succeed, and still do.

So thank you, K.F. Breene, for taking the time to start writing. You have inspired me to start writing as well, and this blog wouldn’t be here without you.

*** 2018 Update – K.F. Breene has become a writing maniac! In a good way, of course. She’s publishing books almost faster than I can read them! Everything was worth the wait, and best of all, The Warrior Chronicles is complete! ***
